This process involves the production of the other RCT parts and structural assembly. Earlier this summer, the production of the first machined part for the tank occurred. So, Airbus and its partners are making good progress on the project. To date, 24 customers have ordered a total of over units of the plane.
They will undoubtedly be excited about these developments. The company is designing the aircraft to maximize overall commonality with the rest of the Aneo family. However, there will be the least changes needed to give the jet the extra range. Since entering service, the AM has been deployed to support a variety of humanitarian relief efforts around the globe — including the delivery of relief material following Hurricane Irma in and the earthquake that rocked Indonesia, among others.
The AM is equipped with eight stretchers as standard, which are permanently stored on board, but it can accommodate as many as 66 standard NATO stretchers and 25 medical personnel seated on troop seats.
It has the range, speed, operating altitude and comfort to optimally serve the medical evacuation role. The AM has been specifically designed for low detectability, low vulnerability and high survivability. The AM configurations also include chaff and flare — countermeasures used by military planes and helicopters to help evade a missile attack by an enemy aircraft. With its minimal infrared signature EPI TP turboprops, highly responsive fly-by-wire flight controls, four independent control computers, comprehensive defensive aids, and damage tolerant controls, the AM is hard to find, hard to hit and hard to kill.
The AM is a unique aircraft offering game-changing capabilities that enable the delivery of heavy-lift helicopters or tonne infantry fighting vehicles more quickly to more remote or desolate regions.
Have you ever wondered how the AM is built? With production underway for the th aircraft, Airbus is providing an exclusive, ongoing look behind the curtain — taking you inside the various European facilities as this milestone AM comes together over the months ahead.

Tactical airlift mission capability Tactical airlift describes the transport and delivery of personnel and goods directly into theatres of operation. Strategic airlift mission capability Strategic airlift means the transport of strategic assets like outsized and heavy vehicles or equipment. Air-to-air refuelling mission capability Standalone, as a perfect complement to a strategic tanker or for front-line re-fuelling missions from tactical locations, the AM refuels drogue-receivers and increase flexibility and availability of other air assets.
Transport Cargo Hold With a maximum payload of up to 37 tonnes 81, lb and a volume of m3 12, ft3 , the AM can carry numerous pieces of outsize cargo, including vehicles and helicopters that are too large or too heavy for previous generation tactical airlifters, for example an NH90 or a CH Chinook helicopter or a heavy infantry fighting vehicle for military purposes.
Short unpaved airstrip performance The AM is the only large airlifter that can fly heavy and outsize equipment directly to the point of need, able to land virtually everywhere. Autonomous ground operations The autonomous capability of the AM enables operations from remote austere airstrips. Airdrop The AM excels in the airdrop role, being able to drop from both high and low altitudes. Survivability The AM has been specifically designed for low detectability, low vulnerability and high survivability.
